i am a recovering sugar addict and can finally admit it. without a good reason to give up things that i really love (or am addicted to) they generally find ways of staying in my life.
until i started digging a little deeper into understanding sugar, where it comes from and why it’s so bad for our bodies and our brains i was having trouble letting go. i plan to write something much more in depth that covers more ground on all the ways sugar is hurting us but for now, the most important reason to avoid sugar for me is Monsanto.
fifty to sixty percent of sugar in the US comes from the sugar beet, not sugar cane. 95% of all sugar beets in the US have been genetically modified by Monsanto to withstand a copious onslaught of their Roundup (glyphosate) without affecting the growth of the crop.
if you care to research Roundup or glyphosate and it’s affect on humans and animals is frightening. it has to be avoided at all costs. you’re absolutely volunteering to be poisoned by Monsanto if you’re consuming sugary foods that have been processed and aren’t specifically labeled as having pure organic cane sugar in them.
btw in 2007 Obama promised that the US would label GMO foods. not only has he not done this he appointed Michael Taylor to be Deputy commissioner of food of the FDA. Michael Taylor was previously the Vice President for Public Policy of Monsanto.
